After a season-ending defeat and eight turnovers, Jaylen Brown sat and wiped his face.
The Georgia native donned an Atlanta Braves cap backwards and commented about how he and the Celtics disappointed the raucous Boston fans for Game 7.
We failed. I lost. "We failed the city," Brown said. Jayson Tatum limped throughout game after injuring his ankle in the first quarter. Brown tried to score 10 more shots than any other Celtic.
Brown called it a "terrible game" when his team needed him. “JT sprained his ankle early in the game. He couldn't leave. He suffered. I failed my team."
Brown shot 8-23, 1-9 from three. Three turnovers outnumbered assists. While he was attacking, the Celtics' offense stalled and couldn't catch up to Miami.
“Offensively, we couldn’t hit a shot,” Brown said. It strained our defense. Despite several nice looks, nothing went in. We must contemplate that.”
Brown declined to discuss his future after completing the playoffs with almost as many turnovers as assists.
After down 3-0 to Miami, the Celtics battled. They won three straight games but failed to become the first NBA playoff team to come back from 3-0 down.
“It’s hard to pull anything else from this situation,” Brown remarked. But playing basketball has been a gift thus far. Finals in one game. It's excruciating. It’s hard up here talking about it.”
