Luton Town Promotes to Premier League After Beating Coventry in Playoff Final

After defeating Coventry in the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Saturday after a penalty shootout,

Luton will make its Premier League debut the following year.

In what is frequently referred to as the most lucrative soccer match in history, Luton defeated Coventry 6-5 in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time.

The winner will likely receive more than $200 million in future earnings in exchange for being promoted to the Premier League, the richest soccer league in the world.

Since the season before the Premier League's rebranding in 1991–1992, Luton hasn't played in England's top division.

After spending 34 years in the first division, Coventry attempted to make its first comeback after being demoted in 2001.
