Former first-round pick and starting quarterback Trey Lance may desire a new start.
He witnessed Brock Purdy lead the San Francisco 49ers to an NFC Championship game before injuries wrecked a Super Bowl contender.
Expect a fresh start. Lance doesn't want to trade with the Niners, but it's understandable. Lance reiterated his desire to start in San Francisco when asked directly if he considered a move.
I knew my goal. I want to play. Love it here. I like the coaches. I enjoy working with Griese, Klay, and Klint. Love the quarterbacks and locker room personnel. I want to be here.”
Lance's words jar. The Niners shopped Lance early in the offseason. San Francisco received calls from teams seeking his services.
Lance is still appreciated in San Francisco, but not as much. Lance is determined to prove himself and reclaim his starting position in the offseason and training camp.
Lance told The Athletic, “As far as Brock, my opportunity is to come in to compete and that’s all I wanted.
I don't want to steal anything from Brock, and nobody should. He did well last year. I just wanted to compete.”
